South Inlet Park, Boca Raton
A county beach park where the grounds welcome a leashed dog and the sand does not. The line between them is a county ordinance, not a suggestion.
The rule people trip over
Palm Beach County allows leashed dogs in most of its parks, on a leash no longer than six feet. It does not allow them on any county beach, and South Inlet Park is a beach park. So the picnic grounds, the paths and the parking side are fine with a leashed dog; the sand is not.
This is worth knowing before you arrive with a towel and a retriever. The nearest stretch of sand a dog can legally use is Bark Beach at Spanish River Park up the coast, and that one needs a permit and falls inside posted hours.
What the park is good for
Shade, the inlet, and boat traffic close enough to hold a dog's attention. It is the jetty end of Boca, so the wind is usually up and the noise is water and engines rather than traffic.
What we do here
We photograph dogs in the parks we work in for free, and everything published is dog-only: owners and bystanders are framed out, and any frame with a recognisable person is cropped or dropped at review. Files go to the owner at no charge.
