Canine Corner Dog Park, Pompano Beach
The one park on our list you cannot simply walk into: it is membership-only, and it closes on Tuesdays.
Membership first, visit second
Canine Corner is not a walk-up park. Membership is required, it is bought per dog, and it is cheap enough that the surprise is the rule and not the price: $31 a year for a Pompano Beach resident, $62 for everyone else, with six-month, weekly and daily options for people who are here for a season.
Arriving without one is the standard first visit to this park.
Tuesdays are out
Closed Tuesdays for maintenance. The other parks we shoot in close Wednesday or Thursday, so if you move between cities during the week, write it down.
A staging area, which more parks should copy
There is a pen between the gate and the park where you leash and unleash. It sounds minor until you have watched a dog slip a collar in an open gateway. It also means the dogs already inside are not crowding the entrance.
Twenty-five pounds is the line
Two sections: under 25 pounds and 25 and over. That is a lower split than the county parks up in Palm Beach, so a 28-pound dog that goes in the small pen at Lake Ida goes in the big one here.
What we do here
We photograph dogs for free in the parks we work in and publish dog-only frames: owners and bystanders are framed out, and any frame with a recognisable person is cropped or dropped at review. Owners get their files free.
